Child friendly font for Google Docs

One of my teachers wants to use Comic Sans (yes, I know...) in Google Docs and obviously it isn't there, Sassoon isn't either. Does anyone know of a child friendly alternative?

My mistake @caffrey, it is! It isn't on the iPad version so I assumed it wasn't on the PC version either. On the iPad you don't have a lot of choice at all and I don't know if you can add a font to Google Docs on the iPad. She wants to install Word Essentials on her iPad and I'm trying to steer her away to Docs!

We use Century Gothic as our "House Style" - it's supposed to be used for all publications and on the website. The reason it was chosen is because of the round lower case a - I think it's very clear - business-like, rather than childish. Century Gothic is also available in MS products, so you should be able to copy and paste between documents without losing formatting. For a script style, we have used "Handlee".

Thanks - I guess it's all about what fonts are actually on the iPad? I don't have Century Gothic. Am I right in thinking you can't install any font on an iPad simply, let alone the legendary comic sans?

I've had a play and can't see any way of adding fonts on the iPad. However documents created in Google docs on a PC in Century Gothic can be edited on an iPad and the font is preserved... Mentioned mostly out of interest and a quirk, but you could set up templates on a PC and distribute them through Drive. Have you got Chrome installed on the iPads? Would just be interested, as you can install fonts in Chrome on the PC.

Thanks @jmak for having a look. I don't have Century Gothic on my PC version of docs, neither in the usual font list or 'More Fonts', but I do have Amaranth which is similar-ish. You're right, if I use Amaranth on the PC it shows up on the iPad. We do have Chrome on our iPads, but if you try to use Docs through it it takes you to the app.

Thanks @Arthur! Have you used it? I wondered if once you've installed a new font on the iPad whether it would show up in the Google Docs app? Currently it only gives me a choice of 11, whereas there are loads in Pages.

@Tammie. I haven't tried it myself yet, but based on the reviews I have read, the fonts you add via AnyFont get installed system-wide so will show up in other apps.

 

The way the app works is by creating a configuration profile with the font(s) embedded into that.

We have used Muli in the past as a close equivalent to Century Gothic.
