Well I haven't seen kids wearing their pants inside out, hoverboards or self-drying clothes either.. So I'm starting to doubt the accuracy of that franchise.. Then again, power laces are a thing now..

You're thinking of an analogue stick Albeit retractable (which probably loses you the L3/R3-type stick-press functionality) but that's what it looks like, to me. (Also there's a relevant XKCD, but I shan't post it )
