STK91 Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Hi All, Can anyone tell me if I buy one of the latest Mac Mini's can I use 3 monitors on it? 2 on the thunderbolt ports and 1 on the HDMI without mirroring one another? Thanks.
Arthur Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 According to Intel, the GPUs that Apple use in their Late 2014 Mac mini do support three independent displays.
Norphy Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 http://www.apple.com/mac-mini/specs/ According to that, it'll drive two displays. I know that the GPU can drive three but it seems the mac mini can't
Arthur Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) According to that, it'll drive two displays. I thought that too, but the max. resolution of the HDMI port (1920x1080 @ 60Hz) is listed separately from the max. resolution of the two Thunderbolt ports (2560x1600) . Edit. Apparently only two displays. It must be an Apple limitation. http://apple.stackexchange.com/a/155100 I've tried it with 3 displays, but no go. Any combination of 2 displays work, but not 3 at the same time. Edited January 16, 2015 by Arthur
Arthur Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 The rMBP supports three displays if you include the screen of the Mac itself. www.apple.com/uk/macbook-pro/specs-retina/
JasonNVSD Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Apparently only two displays. It must be an Apple limitation. A workaround for this is to use a USB video card for the third display (an example). It will have poor performance for games or 3D work, but otherwise are generally okay.
