Evening All,

Short version of this is school I'm currently at has had a long time without proper money being spent on network and as I'm trying to do the 5 Yr Dev plan I'm struggling to find a nice way to replace all that needs doing in a normal rolling cycle. Most the clients won't last another 5 years to roll out.

SANs full up, teacher laptops dying left right and centre currently :p

Is there any companies specifically that do 5 Yr+ leases? Seems everyone is max 3 years normally. Don't know if there's a specific reason for this in regards to any frameworks etc? Would be lovely to get all what we need and roll it out soon

Thanks,

Steve

Would be appreciated :) Didn't realise Dell did that long! Although I do wonder if current school has the funds for full Dell but guess we shall see on quotes haha :D

I think as an academy (if thats what you are) a three year lease is the most you can buy into I believe - 5 year leases will be heavily frowned upon by your Auditors without a valid reason.

Ah ok :o Not at the moment still normal school here, but obviously future wise I don't know their plans.

Just seemed much more ideal to get 5 year lease, 5 year warranty, and have it all set as such. Especially with the amount I'd like to replace, trying to fit some of the major bits like SAN/Wireless into 3 years only would push some other bits out. Mmm will have to have a play with figures.

Thanks,

Steve

I'm fairly certain Syscap will do a 5 year lease and I assume Stone do, most advise only 3 years due to the nature of Operating Leases.

An academy can do a 5 year lease, but I think it needs approval by the EFA. It was all tightened up a couple of years back when the business with leases hit the news.

We've assisted a couple of education clients in 2014 to obtain operating lease agreements through Dell. The agreements are all in accordance with the DFE. :)

PM sent. :)

Hi as others have said it does depend on some circumstances and is a bit of a minefield. There have been loads of instances reported where schools signed up to agreements that they shouldn't have due to their own lack of knowledge and also unfortunately some disreputable companies/people deliberately tying schools down to unsustainable terms etc.

Ultimately unfortunately, you are dictated to by legislation. As a school you are not allowed to ‘borrow’ which means that you can only enter into an operating lease. What this means is the finance company has to take a residual investment in the kit. In monetary terms the 3 years that they will do often looks less that interest free, and flexible finance companies will work with you at the end of the 3 years to help you achieve what you want to achieve. In short, it is not the finance companies that cant do 5 years, it is the operating lease requirements that Schools have to adhere to.

have sent you a PM.
