unixman_again Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Professor's BEAGLE, missing for 10 years, FOUND ON MARS (We'll know for sure on Friday.)
unixman_again Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 BBC News - Lost Beagle2 probe found 'intact' on Mars
sonofsanta Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 MRO's data confirms that Beagle landed just 5km from the centre of its targeted touchdown zone This was an ellipse, 500km by 100km, on a flat, near-equatorial plain known as Isidis. To be off-centre by such a small margin amounts to a bulls-eye. Such a shame Professor Pillinger isn't about to see how close he came
featured_spectre Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Wonder how far the mars rover is from it...
Joanne Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 They should send the mars rover out to assist!
JJonas Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Wonder what went wrong with it? Looking at the released photos of the landing site it appears not all of the solar panel unfurled. Its transmitter aerial was below the panels so without a full deployment it was unable to communicate with its mothership.
