frogwoman Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Help, I'm new doing the census - I seem to have fixed all the other errors on the dry run but error 2170 is causing me grief. there error action says to do this: "Type Code Error Message Comment/Resolution 2170 A valid SEN Type must be provided for pupils with a SEN Provision = P, K, S or E. Spring return Select Focus | Pupil (or Student) | Special Educational Needs then Search for the required pupil/student. Ensure that a SEN type has been added in the Basic SEN Details panel for all pupil/students with an SEN Status of P, K, S or E. This is achieved by clicking the New button adjacent to the Needs section and selecting a Need Type from the drop-down list, e.g. Moderate Learning Difficulty." The Notes say the Needs must include the "Needs Type(s), Ranking(s) and Start Dates(s) All appeared to be filled in I'm not sure what to change to get the error to go away.
CAM Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 The SEN type Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulty (BESD) has been withdrawn by the DfE. You need to contact your SEN department and get them to change the BESD behaviour type to something else. You can get a list of students using the SEN Detail Report on the census screen and highlight anyone with the BESD SEN type (It will use the full name mentioned above). 1

'A valid SEN type must be provided for pupils with a SEN provision -P,K,S or E' When checking the Pupil they appear to have a Need type entered however the error is still persisting. Solution To resolve this error you need to go to the Students SEN Details, then in Panel 3: Basic SEN Details you will need to enter an End date for the Need type of BESD and start a New need type of SEMH from that date. This is due to Behaviour, Emotional and Social Difficulty (BESD) having been replaced by Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) as of September 2014. In order to resolve the Validation Error you will need to change the Need type of BESD to now be SEMH. You can do this in Panel 3 of Student SEN Details by opening the Need type record and changing the Need Type from BESD to SEMH. This has been advised by the DfE as a 'Direct Replacement', please see below advice from the 2014/15 Census Guidance. 'The ?pupil SEN type? (100547) codeset (D00237) will also be changed as follows: ? remove ?behaviour, emotional and social difficulties? (BESD) code from September 2014 ? new code ?social, emotional and mental health? (SEMH) introduced from September 2014 (as a direct replacement for BESD) To facilitate this data item ?pupil SEN type? (100081) is superseded by data item ?pupil SEN type? (100537) with codeset (D00237) replacing codeset (D00230). Pupils currently recorded as BESD will automatically be moved to the SEMH category with school having the autumn term to review how pupils are recorded ahead of the spring 2015 census.' Do they have any needs listed that fall within the census period? All SEN students must have at least one valid SEN need.

One has two, ADHD (start date 12/10/13) and RWSC (start date 30/09/14) and the other one has only ADHD (start date 03/10/13). They both have a status of K. I don't normally have to deal with SEN stuff, but our SEN department haven't quite got their heads round the SIMS changes just yet so i'm learning as i'm going!

BussL Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Error 2170 School Census Can anyone help? I've encountered several of the above error on the Spring Census and have fixed all but one of them. The student in question has 4 items listed under the Needs Type heading; the ones ranking 1 and 2 (which is what I believe the Census is picking up on) are not under the old BESD category, hence I am unable to change them to the new SEMH category. But the student is still returning an error. Does anyone know how to fix this? Edited January 19, 2015 by BussL

CAM Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Try removing all BESD types completely from the student even if they aren't rank 1 and 2. It might still be getting exported to the census and failing validation as a result.

BussL Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Success ! After consulting with the SENCO, we discovered that one of the Needs Types is now obsolete (epilepsy) and she confirmed that I was able to transfer it across to the new SEMH category. Thanks for the suggestions ! 1
