IT Support / Service Engineer – Bury, Greater Manchester.20K – 25K

Apex Network Solutions Ltd is a successful IT Service, Support and Solution provider based in Bury, Greater Manchester. We provide technology solutions across the North West of the UK to the Education and SMB market and are looking for a new member to join our team. We require an IT Support Engineer capable of providing 1st Level through to 3rd Level support via either telephone, remote and on-site if required. The support we provide covers all aspects of Server, Desktop and Network technologies.

 

The successful candidate must have excellent customer service skills. A driving licence and own transport is required. In return for the right person we offer a competitive salary in the range of £20-25K depending on experience.

You will also be given the opportunity to assist with various IT projects and visit client sites to provide consultancy and installation support.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The role will involve call logging, diagnosing and resolving support incidents/problems that are reported by our clients and where required liaising with the appropriate 3rd party hardware or software vendors. The position will also offer the chance to attend scheduled maintenance visits for our contracted clients around the North West. The ideal candidate should have proven experience of working under pressure, managing their own time effectively, as well as being a very good communicator.

Skills & Experience required

-Minimum of 2 to 3 years' in same or similar role supporting technical and non-technical users.

-Ability to communicate verbally over the phone and provide technical support.

-Proven knowledge of installing/configuring and support Windows XP, Vista and Win 7

-Able to install, configure and support Windows Server 2003/2008, Exchange, SQL Servers.

-Knowledge of VMWare and Hyper-V virtualised environments with iSCSI or Fibre Channel Storage technologies.

-Able to troubleshoot and configuring DHCP & DNS, with an in-depth knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy Configurations

-Advanced experience in Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and 2010/2013 as well as good rounding of all general PC applications both in customisation and deployment methods.

-Able to use remote support tools such as RDP, Goto-Assist and Logmein.

-Ability to understand IP networks including design, and setup of IP networks for LANs, WLANs and WANs in enterprise Networks.

-Ability to Patch, Cable and Configure CAT5e, Network Switches using VLANS/Trunks. Experience of HP ProCurve or Cisco beneficial.

-Ability to wire CAT5e cabling ports, run cables, use typical DIY tools.

-Knowledge/experience interest in Audio Visual products, TVs, IWB, projectors, Media Receivers.

-Professional Certifications are beneficial but not pre-requisites, candidates will be considered based upon knowledge and experience in a similar role.

 

Duties and Key Responsibilities

-Answering the incoming helpdesk calls that are logged via email, telephone and in person.

-Monitoring the Helpdesk and Remote Monitoring Systems

-Investigating and resolving the logged helpdesk calls.

-Escalating calls that cannot be completed immediately.

-Provide regular updates to customers on progress of their queries.

-Supporting devices and users on a Windows network comprising of Windows XP and Windows 7 PCs and laptops, Active Directory and Exchange, SQL.

-Supporting HP, Toshiba, Fujitsu and a multitude of hardware manufacturers.

-Providing admin/technical documentation services.

 

Personal Skills/Requirements

-Ability to speak clear English and communicate both verbally and in writing. Capable of demonstrating customer service skills.

-Able to handle pressure and work on multiple incidents at the same time – multi-tasking.

-Self-motivated to find answers, solutions and satisfy customer demands.

-Able to read and produce business quality documentation, understand technical topics and utilize knowledge in live environments.

-Must have own car and clean full UK driving license and able to lift, move and setup equipment from site to site.

-As the role involves working within education the position will be subject to successfully obtaining an Enhanced CRB Disclosure.
