Printing username on printout

Does anyone know anyway of printing the users username on every printout they do, or at a minimum a way of printing there username in the header/footer of a word document?

 

Perhaps using a default template with some autotext in (Although I can't find a way).

I believe that this is possible using PyKota although I haven't sussed it yet... if anyone wants to enlighten me I too would be grateful!

Tea4CUPS is not an add-on for PyKota per-se. It is most often used independantly and for other purposes but can be used with PyKota. By default Tea4CUPS provides NO facility to do what you want (overlay username on printouts), although it allows you to run any filter of your choice before sending the filtered datas to the printer, and sets a number of environment variables that can be used by your own filter (like the TEAUSERNAME environment variable, which contains the username of course). What you need instead of Tea4CUPS is I believe the "alternate pstops" filter made by Helge Blischke and available from http://www.srz.de/Members/bla/cups/filter/1.1.18/

i use a vbs script that opens word and autofills the footer with the logonname.

The vbs script sounds like a good idea, how do you do that, or have you got any websites that have a guide?

The vbs word script will start an instance of word so the only way to force this on the kids is to replace the word icon with an icon which launches this script.

 

I have not tested this theory tho.

 

Is it worth creating a new CUPS server just for this feature?

Seeing as word has access and can use vba - why not make a default template that gets the username in vba and autofills the header or footer in every word doc with there username

Which is ok but only works for word and possibly some of the other office apps.

 

A universal program independent solution is needed.

not sure if paper cut or something similiar would allow this - that or a seperator page

 

But you can add a separator page before each print job with the user's name, intended to help staff sort documents at a shared printer. To set it up, right-click Printer, Properties, Advanced Tab, Seperator Page button.
