Lydecker Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Hi, I am trying to write a report in SIMS to get out a specified Gradeset Grade-Value lookup table for a given Gradeset Name. (i.e if a student has a result of 21 which is linked to a Gradeset Name of 'KS5 Attainment' - how do I know whether 21 is a B grade, A Grade etc....) I've tried using the Focus Area of Assessment manager > Gradeset, however this only allows me to get out a list of all the Gradeset names. Am I using the wrong focus area? Thanks Edited January 8, 2015 by Lydecker
Lydecker Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 OK I found a Focus Area called GradeSet History buried away that looks promising....
vikpaw Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 If you only have a points value, a report won't be able to do the lookup for you, even if you found the list of possible values in the gradeset, unless you hard coded it, and added some programming. You should create a marksheet with an aspect that will store the grade. Use a lookup formula to do this, so it will do the lookup using the gradeset, and then you can save that result to report on. It would be more efficient.
Lydecker Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 'If you only have a points value, a report won't be able to do the lookup for you, even if you found the list of possible values in the gradeset, unless you hard coded it, and added some programming.' Are you refering to the issue where a Grade only has a boundry values associated with it - therefore you would need programming to deduce where the value lies in the grade boundries?
vikpaw Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 No, I mean if you design a report that returns the points value a student has achieved, and you want to convert that into a grade, it's not possible with a standard SIMS report to also lookup what the gradeset is and then workout the equivalent grade. A marksheet cell with a formula will do the lookup for you, and regardless of the boundary, it will revert to the lowest achievable grade. Once you have a grade value, you can get your report to extract that value. I might have mis-understood what you're trying to do. Can you give an example of your setup. Do you have a marksheet where the students have data in points score form setup that you are pulling data out of?
Lydecker Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 I'm all sorted now thanks. I exported all the Aspects I was after with a Grade_Value and Grade_Set_History_ID I exported all the Grade Sets with Grade, Value, and Grade_History_ID Then INNER JOINED the two with external code to map back to the initial Grades entered by teachers on the system. (for anyone else reading this in the future, you will also need to export and map in both reports the Grade_Order if you are doing Fine Grade reporting - i.e a B1, B2, B3 each carrying the same grade value...)
