Hi All, we are starting to look at a 1-1 iPad deployment to students, we have around 1500 students and just over 100 staff, we currently have a 100/100 connection and think we are going to need at least a 1 gig capable line installed. Does anyone have a 1-1 deployment already up and running and what speed connection do you have? What would you all recommend or think we would need, I'm thinking around 300/1000.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly I'd say its more on what you're doing with them in terms of setups etc. The generic 1500 devices, wouldn't be any different to 1500 pcs.

If you're sticking iCloud backups on for example and using Office365 that'll use a lot more, than if you're saving locally to your own servers etc.

Are they downloading apps from Apple or local server?

VLE online or local?

etc etc

Thanks for the reply Steve, we would likely block any app installs and iCloud use in school, they will be using Office 365 mainly, internal use will likely only be collaborative work between class teacher and students, our VLE is local.

@rob101, @Steve21 is right it does depend on the applications you use. ICloud backup, iTunes and youtube really can hammer bandwidth. The vast majority of schools we have that do 1:1 Ipad deployment to a similar size as you gave a minimum of 200Mbit on 1Gbit bearer. The largest at the moment at least is a 500Mbit

The good news about having a 1Gbit bearer is that you can easily upgrade it in 100Mbit chunks relatively quickly. If you need some of our customers to speak to then let me know. We also include Lightspeed MDM free of charge year 1 so its nice and easy to integrate content filtering onsite and offsite as well as manage all of your apps including full VPP support.

Thanks
