Folder Redirection Woes

Hello Edugeekers,

 

I am in a bit of difficulty here with something that I think shouldn't be all that hard to sort out, though reading suggests its a nightmare.

 

I need to create an exam user which has a blank green desktop and start menu folder for an upcoming exam with our site. Our site is Windows 7 64 bit and a 2008R2 DC

 

I have created a GPO and a security group for this user already and have a test user in place.

 

In the GPO I have set the folder redirections in place to our \\f.q.d.n\Menus\CompSciStartMenu and \\f.q.d.n\Menus\CompSciDesktop Folders and a couple of other minor settings, like remove recycle bin from desktop, preventing the user shutting down the machine and changing the desktop colour to a green background , it should be up and running as far as I can see, but the GPOs bits regarding folder redirection are not applying (I have placed a test.txt file in the desktop folder to check it is applying).

 

I have set the permissions on the folders to add in both the security group and everyone to have read/list and execute access to the folders.

 

The GPO is running as far as I can see as the other bits of the GPO, such as removing recycle bin/ preventing shutdown and the changing of the background to a green colour is working without problem when the test user logs on, they have no mandatory profile setup and its basically a user with an internet access usergroup, domain users group and the exam security group that I have created.

 

I have set Loopback Policy Processing to Merge in case that's an issue with the way our domain is setup (its a flat domain run overall by our LEA and has many other sites in it, we exist as an OU in its structure) and I have also set it to enforce the GPO on our part of the domain

 

I have already searched on here for other settings and see many mentions of changing some of the parts of the Start Menu and Taskbar settings within the GPOs, I have tried enabling and disabling the many things raised in the redirection threads, but it does not seem to be kicking in at all.

Have you tried using RSOP to see if the GPO is applying? What does it say?

Event Viewer on Local Machine, look for anything regarding Folder Redirection????
