Office 365 - Staff Diary

Wondering if anyone can advise on the best way to do this - we are wanting to move to a staff shared calendar which will hold all of the events going on in school, we use some other convoluted system at the moment.

 

How would people advise to do it within Office 365 - a shared mailbox with the calendar shared, a Room mailbox or Equipment mailbox (and if one of these, which one and why) or a public folder with a clendar in it?

 

Requirements we have at the moment are to restrict adding events to a subset of users and only allow access to Staff users to view the calendar.

 

I think all 3 are viable options, just wondering if someone can advise which would be the best to use for our needs

I would use a Public Folder, however you cant open them in OWA 2013.

 

Have you considered a sharepoint calendar?

I want it to be accessible in both OWA and Outlook and i don't think the Sharepoint calendar will allow that will it?

 

It adds another layer to it where if I can keep it all within the Exchange aspect of Office 365 I'd be happier.

I'd go for a shared mailbox as it's just as easy as the other options, plus you can e-mail your staff instructions on how to add it or the "share calendar" link directly.

By default your users can get read access to the calendar, and you can either set additional rights for certain users to post, or just get them to access the shared mailbox directly to add the new events.

 

I thought Public Folders was not a recommended feature now.

Well they readded the Public Folders to Office 365 and exchange 2013 with improved features because of an upcry, so I assumed they were still an ok feature.

 

Googling the question came back with the majority of reuslts suggetsing a public folder, it just seemed a bit overkill to me to create a whole public folder structure for it (but then if we move to more calendars if this becomes a success that maybe it would be the better solution...)
