Wouldn't Raid 1 give you better performance anyway?

read probably better than no raid probably worse than raid 0, write almost definitely not because it has to write twice the information (though with an ssd I doubt the time difference would be detectable to a person probably would to a benchmark)

Have a raid 1 of WD Red's and use something like ghost / acronis or whatever and restore from a live backup copy to the SSD's again ?

 

great if you backup every day I know I don't (I use offline files and have all my stuff no my microserver which is raid 1 mirrored and its on the microserver laptop and surface pro (though I may have to take pics off the surface pro its ssd is showing as red again))

I know it isn't cheap but if you got two 256 850 pro samsung SSD's (seeing as they have a 10 year warranty) and RAID zeroed those together, claim under warranty when and if they failed?

You could do that, but it's a bit of a hassle.

 

By the way, if you check the terms of the warranty on the 850 Pro you'll find that you are only covered for 10 years or 150TB (whichever comes first).

stick to one ssd then, 512gb SATA SSD it is then. Failing that unless I get a PCIe SSD although possibly more money for one of those ?

I would recommend a Samsung, I have an 840 EVO here in my machine and it absolutely rocks for speed, its such a nice thing to get to desktop at 10 seconds or thereabouts.

Same here - I recently won an 850 Pro 512gb SSD , now chugging along nicely in my 2011 mac mini

I think i may get a a hybrid drive?

 

I've got a Seagate 500gb Hybrid drive and i'm more than happy with it. I'm not gaming mind, but it is more than fast enough to extend the useful life of my dual core turion laptop.

 

The first couple of times it booted, I was a bit 'meh' about it's speed, but it just got faster with each boot. I'm now at about 30 seconds boot time on windows 7 enterprise. Thats down from putthekettleon minutes on the standard rotating drive.
