I had plenty of other things to amuse me (only got to redeem a couple of freebie codes today, though), but I'd be pretty hacked off if I'd bought a console for a little 'un over Xmas. I feel the attack was petty and pointless, and that Sony took way too long to sort it out.

 

Apparently the group are now trying to mess up the TOR network.

Its not acceptable that this happened but its not the end of the world, people spend too much time on those consoles anyway.

 

I just hope vital systems are not as easy to bring down as game networks. If they are god help us all.

Didn't this sort of thing happen last year as well?

 

IIRC Nintendo's network was down over Christmas... though that was due to too many people registering their Wii U or something.

Bought myself a ps4 this morning, only to find I cant register an account or use any online features!!!

Didn't do much with our xbox one on xmas day so wasn't affected.

What a load of bovine excrement! I may be wrong, but I thought it was a DDOS attack - which doesn't as such show flaws in the security. Plus "I would hope that people had better things to do on Xmas Day and spent time with family" perhaps he should take his own advice!

That video made me laugh, I mean a DDOS attack is like standing in a the door way of a shop, it isn't hacking, hacking would involve actually entering the store. The point about it costing them money is just silly, Microsoft has private peering with all the major ISPs (Peering), it might have cost Sony, but Microsoft has profited from it if anything. The only reason it was an issue would prob be the fact Microsoft switched off the DDOS alerts as they expected a ton of people to "sign up" on xmas and they didn't want their security monitoring to block off those new customers so the "downtime" was whilst the security team headed back into work.

 

And what moron would allow his face to be shown, clearly the escape goat for some one alot smarter who knows the importance of anonymity.

Catch the ones responsible and send them to prison for 10 years. I don't care if they are young or clueless but it is still illegal to hack, they are costing business's millions without a care and I find their excuses exactly what I expect from youngsters who have barely/ever worked and had no real grasp on adult society.

 

Sooner or later they will do something much more serious and the government will have no choice but to be heavy footed.
