Bitlocker USB key problem

Hi All,

 

One of my users has had a bitlocker usb key go missing in her classroom. I've gone through the usual channels on the laptop to 'create duplicate startup key' but this just immediately goes back to the previous screen and no BEK file appears in the USB drive.

 

There is a note on the screen saying 'some settings are managed by your administrator' which is me now, but I didn't set up the GPO components of bitlocker, my predecessor did and I have no idea what he has done where.

If the usb is lost surely you have to unencrypt and encrypt again as someone now has the key to get in?

 

BEK file is hidden just incase you haven't got show hidden files?

That's what we've done in the end - unencrypted and re-encrypted with a new key.

 

Incidentally it had actually done the BEK creation, but for whatever reason the laptop that did the creation just wouldn't show that file even though hidden files was on. I put the stick in another machine and everything showed up fine and it worked in the original machine.
