Set permissions on a folder

Hey Guys

 

Having some issues when trying to set some permissions on a confidential folder in the staff shared area. Basically I created a Group in AD called SEN Staff and added the members to that group, I then went onto the file server and set the security permission to say that 'SEN Staff' and 'Administrator' had full control over this folder with nothing else inside and I made sure I ticked 'Replace all child object permissions' when applying the settings.

 

For some reason the users who should be able to access the folder can't it just says Access Denied. I have even tried setting the group up as the Owner and they still can't access the files.

 

I have left some screenshots so you can see what I've done. Hopefully one of you will see I've missed something small and stupid!

Have you checked the Share permissions? IE, click on the sharing tab on your first screenshot and then permissions.

Or, more likely, the sharing permissions on D:\Staff Shared Area\

Just done that. Seems ok to me?

Only other suggestion would be to add SYSTEM and CREATOR OWNER, then give them both full permission.

I've always preffered doing sharing via the old way in 2008 R2 by going through 'Advanced Sharing' and then doing the Security permissions separate. I'd also suggest getting the users to log off then on again if they haven't already (please, please forgive me if you already have told them to log off)

 

We have restricted folders at our place but these can be seen by other staff but only the staff that should be able to access have got permissions, I guess you are creating a new share just for the SEN staff to access directly is that correct??

if you create the folder and ask it to inherit permissions from above can the SEN staff access it?

if they can add the group to the folder perms with FC and remove inherit from parent does this kill off the access?

 

+1 on using the older method to set share and access permissions imo MS dropped the ball in adding extra mouse clicks to setting permission
