Lamp life: 30k hours Assuming 7am - 5pm usage [i've seen them still on at 5pm] 10 hours per day. 50 per week. ~2050 hours per year. (per week * 52) - (per week * 11) [it's about 11 weeks off, if I've counted right.] 1 lamp should last around 14 - 15 years. This HAS to be wrong... Le EDIT: Just realised the error. 3k lifespan, not 30k. I can't read things properly... especially if the same thing is repeated [like a string of zeros.] Edited December 12, 2014 by X-13

The site I was using for reference put 3000, but i couldn't read it properly. Sometimes I can't parse properly if the same thing is repeated multiple times.

ATM [with correct lamp life] I'm looking at around £900+ every 4 years for projectors. [~£675 is just the lamp cost] Jesus Christ... Factor in the amps, DVD players and whatnot... yeah, I can see touchscreens are so much cheaper.
CamelMan Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) I think the 10 hours a day might be a bit high - Im seeing bulbs (however it does vary on producer and use) going around the 2 - 3 year mark, therefore over a 3 year period is just cost of bulb £100-200 (anything more than 200 I look at project replacement). Edit dont forget some projectors come with spares or bulb insurance that cover 1 - 2 years. Edited December 12, 2014 by CamelMan

We have people who set everything up when they get in... at 6am. We also have people who leave projectors on 24/7. Even during holidays. 10 hours a day would be the average when including the ones who turn stuff on later and turn it off earlier.

(not much but a bit....) OT-however with the waste in energy, as well as costs of replacements - surely ("dont call me Shirley") that is some thing to bring up with management to stamp out - it must be costing you a fortune!

You might be able to install the network management software and schedule them to shutdown after school etc.

Even if it's just for usage/lamp monitoring.

After the meeting I got told to order 10, they just agreed them all. I'm a very lucky tech! Wanna put it forward to get the rest of the school done next april / may Would case studies make any difference?

It's why I'm getting this done. I'm not surer whether I want this to be a "Buy touchscreens plz" proposal, or a full "here is the upgrade plan" proposal. I'm considering offering old computers to parents at about 50% cost as well. But, I'm not sure about the tax and stuff... Possibly 50% + tax.
beancole Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Put it to them that its cheaper to buy all at once, easier to manage warranties etc. and if they are all the same brand you can hold stock of spares without things going to waste. I used to work at a new build school and they didn't have to worry about anything for 3 years.

I'm looking to replace projectors with giant monitors... at ~£3k each [and 4 classes per year, plus nursery], I doubt they'd go for it. Le EDIT: I just realised I'm writing a feasibility study...
