1080P or UHD 4K Television Suggestions

Basically going to be using a TV as a display for my PC that I am hoping to get built in January 2015 ( so in a months time or so )

 

Depending on cost I will either include it with purchasing the computer components or purchase the Telly separately

 

Places that I am considering so far are :

 

1) If purchasing separately then Currys

 

If purchasing with computer components then either

 

1) Scan

2) Ebuyer

 

Has any one got any suggestions on anywhere else that I could purchase items from using finance ??

 

For the time being I just want to get some recommendations for 1080P LED HD TV's and some UHD 4K recommendations so I can see how much they will cost.

 

I did see an LG IPS UHD 4k telly at currys a month or so ago but that cost a bit over £2,000, which is a lot more than I want to spend on a telly.

 

Make wise for tellys I presume it will be the likes of Panasonic / Sony / LG, not sure about Samsung

I did see that but all sortsa tellies been suggested. Was hoping for a few of each type of telly being linked to so I could look at reviews etc for those specific makes and models etc

I've heard good things about the LG 55EC930V, from a user who demoed one. Remember that you PC will need the oomph to drive content/connections to a display like that though :)

Depends what you plan to do - I have a 760 and it's not up to 4K gaming (well, you can, but at hugely reduced settings; it actually looks better in 1080p!). Will handle 4K video no sweat though :)

 

Depending on the cost of the telly , can always upgrade the GPU later on for 4k gaming etc again this depends on how much a 4k screen will cost, if too much then will stick with a 1080p screen

I have a Panasonic TX-40AX630B and I have to say, I've been impressed overall. However, for the price (£700), I could have got an amazing HD TV - there is still quite a premium on UHD. In terms of features and picture quality, I reckon UHD cost me about an extra £150 - £200. I don't intend to buy another TV for 10 years though so opted to go UHD now so I have it later; if you'll upgrade again in less than 6 years, you'll get a better TV for your money if you ignore 4K for now. Plus the games aren't there yet - GTA V is the first I've heard of that's going to be truly 4K (you can upscale most games to 4K but that doesn't mean the textures will be 4K) and as nothing but the very top end GPUs can handle that yet, I reckon it's going to be a couple more years before 4K becomes a regular thing in games. All speculation of course :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but Far Cry 4 is supposed to be 4k and so is Assassins Creed Unity!?

Quite possibly - GTA V is the only one I heard advertising the fact though as a bonus to buying the PC version :)

Are you sure about those? Just because you can put them in 4K resolution, doesn't make them true 4K. For that, the textures need to be 4K quality. I've actually played both Tomb Raider and Arkham Origins in 4K resolution, and neither of them looked true 4K to me.

Isn't Windows font/UI scaling still a bit ropey to consider going 4k for a computer monitor yet? Is anyone using one as their primary computer display?

 

My "Steambox" is really just a Windows machine with a custom UI. In order to set it up, I had to use Windows proper - it was totally unreadable at 4K! I dropped the resolution while I was in Windows. If you use something like XBMC for your media playback, you can set the playback resolution independently, so you could have Windows in 1080p for readability, then your games and movies in 4K when wanted.

To be honest no I'm not entirely sure, just know that they allow 4k Res to be selected as an option. Didn't think of the textures and stuffs :)

So basically get a decent 1080P Telly ( need suggestions still for 1080P TV's ) and get 4k Later on once the graphics cards have been updated / made better etc

 

At least this is what I am thinking, although a 4k UHD set would be nice, am not sure the two suggested are any good , I remember looking at a review and think you need a 50" TV Set to make full use of 4k

Don't be so hasty to disregard 4k and go straight to 1080p. Why you may ask? I'll tell you why!

You don't need a particular size to make use of 4k if you're using it as a computer monitor because I'm guessing you'll be close to the screen, the closer you get the easier your eyes can see the pixels on the screen so if you're using it as a monitor you will definitely see the difference.

Future proofing, in a couple of years time 4k will become the standard, if you're buying a new TV anyway why not make sure it'll give you a lot of life unless of course you plan to buy another TV in a couple years time which I think would be more expensive in the long run

Features, nearly all 4k TV's come with all the swanky features new TV's have and generally the colour reproduction and other various factors that help toward the picture of a display will be present in most 4k TV's, it's not all about resolution.

But do what you feel is right, personally if I was in the market for a TV now I wouldn't bother with a 1080p I'd want the best my money could buy to ensure the TV will be future proof, but that's just me :)

PM Sent but basically

 

1) Getting computer parts on finance so I can build my pc up which will be used for a multitude of things - media centre ( music / videos ), test rig to learn more about virtualisation / exchange / server oses / dhcp / dns / fsmo roles / Gaming / Video transcoding and depending on how much it will cost might get either a NAS or at least two WD Red or similar drives and setup a raid one config on the pc

 

2) Telly depending on cost ( as per my original comment ) will either get as apart of the financed parts above or separately ( if financed as apart of the above items then will need to ensure I can get said telly from scan or ebuyer and will need to get all my computer parts from either ebuyer or scan ) unless someone has a suggestion of somewhere else that sells both TV's and computer parts on finance ?

richer sounds are always a good place to get tvs from!

 

Am aware of them but dont wanna get 2 lots of finance , want to get the telly and computer from the same place and get it under one finance agreement ( if possible )

 

Assuming the TV will cost more than £350, if not then might be able to get the telly separately
