Ubiquiti Unifi and smoothwall

Has anyone setup guest network on the Ubiquiti Unifi and smoothwall combo? if so did you run into any issues?

We VLAN'd off users and found that we had to create a new group called guests but not opening the guest portal to do this as we wanted transparent proxies to be used. We found Smoothwall were very helpful when setting it up.

Are you referring to the Smoothwall 802.1x RADIUS/BYOD authentication?

 

We've set it up and haven't had any issues. currently running UniFi 3.2.1.

No issues but that would depend on the setup and smoothwall configuration. if I recall when we set it up it was series of task addressing many areas of the network being configured but in brief

we too have a separate VLAN for BYOD, tagging the vlan through your network switches onto your AP's then on smoothwall setting up a VLAN interface for BYOD with an IP address tagging that VLAN, set up a transparent proxy using that IP address with redirect users SSL page (with session cookie), set smoothwall to offer DHCP on the BYOD interface.

 

Smoothwall released a main update which included BYOD so there could be a revised way to setup BYOD but we have found this method effective and reliable

smoothwall are very helpful and I am confident they will be able to assist you with your requirements

Also you need to add your APs to the WPA Enterprise section
