Acceptable Use Policies - Y7 - 11 signing

I have been asked to write an E-Safety policy however there is a line which i have stuck in about all users signing the AUP.

 

At the moment we get Staff and Sixth Form to sign the AUP but not Y7 - 11 but we have a disclaimer at login which says:

 

By logging into this computer you are agreeing to comply with the Acceptable Use Policies which can be found:

- in UPublic (P:\Acceptable Use Policy),

- at all areas where students are able to use a PC,

- at {schoolwebsite}/policies,

Staff will have signed an Acceptable Use Policy which can also be found in the Staff Room.

Sixth Form students will too have signed an Acceptable Use Policy and handed it back to IT Support.

 

Is it a requirement that parents of students and students in Y7-11 sign the AUP or is it up to schools to decide this?

Quite sure there is a post somewhere on here (cant find it) that says its pointless getting students to sign AUP's or even acknowledge one at login as they are under the age at which they can be held accountable? or words to that effect?

Parents all sign an AUP here so we are able to enforce the various "rules" within it.

We currently use the RM system to get users to "Accept" the AUP before logging in and take this as a digital signature but from this post we are now looking at whether students under the ages of 16 have to have their parents sign an agreement on their behalf.

We have a paper AUP that parents have to sign before their child is allowed Internet access. We also use the RM AUP which they have to accept at least once a year.

We are thinking about going down this route but we are unsure whether there are implications that a student under the age of 16 can sign something on their own behalf or whether a parent has to sign it on their childs behalf.

Just noticed that the OP was referring to 7-11 year olds and I would imagine that would be an issue. However I don't think that necessarily would be the case with 11-16 and I am certainly unaware of any legal reason that they couldn't sign it although happy to be proved wrong of course!

Not sure on the actual legal documentation but we have all students and their parents sign the AUP when they start school. They also get reminders when using the computers.

All students sign the AUP. Years 7 - 11, the parent countersigns it. Gets handed out to them in their first IT lesson of Year 7.

 

Any that haven't been returned to us by October start getting harassed by us, and eventually getting accounts disabled. It's amazing how quickly forms get found, signed & returned once they can't log on anymore.

 

Sixth Form sign their own, they sign other things on their own so made no sense to get parents involved there.

All students here sign our AUP which is given to them when they have their first IT lesson. Up to the age of 16 both the student and the parent sign the document and return the document to us whereas anybody over 16 can just sign it themselves.

When the form is returned to us the student is then added to the Internet Access group which allows them out to the WWW, so as you can imagine they come back fairly quickly.
