One of the 2 can kits such as the wherry is a good start.

You need a fermenter i.e large plastic bucket, some sanitizer which can either be the brewing stuff or Milton non rinse.

Once it's fermented you can then either rack it into bottle or a conditioning barrel which you can dispense from.

Bottles are more work but it's very satisfying to pop the cap off your own bottle.

A baby Burco, A fermenting vessel, a pressure barrel, a sieve and this

Edit. The title mentions "Amateur Winemaker", ignore that, the book has nothing to do with wine making.

You need a fermenting bucket, airlock, pressure barrel, thermometer, hydrometer and the tube to put it in, syphon tube, steriliser and a beer kit which I'd strongly recommend Woodfords Wherry as a starter, cracking kit :-)

One of the things that's most important when brewing is temperature control, the best cheap and easy way is to get a plastic container that the fermenting barrel will comfortably fit in and an aquarium heater, fill the container about a third full of water, stick in the heater and bring the water to the recommended temperature for fermentation as per the kit instructions.
