Wanted: Vericool EPOS Terminals

If anyone out there (in the UK, probably) has any of the proprietary EPOS terminals associated with the Vericool cashless catering system available for purchase, do get in touch. We are in the market and second hand units would do us fine.

I don't have any epos to sell however I thought I would offer a suggestion that we have done. As you probably know Vericool EPOS till are hugely expensive and the tills we had are still running XP embedded. So I had a thought of installing the epos software on a standard windows 7 workstation. you may find like me we have a couple spare pcs knocking about. we loaded it up with memory, fresh install of windows 7 installed only the software required to run vericool, added a fingertip scanner and touch screen monitor. (you don't necessarily have to have a touch screen monitor, just use a mouse.)

I have tested the software on windows 8.1 tablet and although the software worked I could not get the UareU fingertip scanner to work as the hardware does not support windows 8 yet. Not to bad if you don't use biometric scanners.

I doubt Vericool support this solution if you were to have any problem with your makeshift epos but we rarely have support calls relating to the EPOS itself.

We've done exactly the same here (though not with Vericool software).. Buy a cheap (in comparison) All-In-One touchscreen workstation, slap a wireless card in (salvage one from your inevitable pile of laptop carcasses), install Windows 7, connect to WSUS, slap the fingerprint/card reader (Whichever method you use) on there and it worked fine. Would be worth investigating to save yourself some cash.

I did investigate this path previously, but it was Vericool's view that by doing so, one would be running an unlicensed copy of the software... They don't condone such use of their application suite. They didn't say it was illegal, mind, but the inference was definitely that we'd be on slightly dodgy ground.

its more a matter of what information you don't say rather than what you do as I had enquired the use of the epos on a windows 8 tablet for a sports day and the canteen wanted to move refreshments on to the field. was still true and I needed assistance supporting it. they offered a solution of installing it on a windows 7 workstation as the UareU fingertip drivers do not support windows 8 yet. there is nothing illegal about it as I am quite sure that they could not tell you what you can and cant buy in fear that you would go somewhere else. they would obviously frown on it as we are using their software on an unsupported platform if we use anything other than the hardware they provide and any problems you experienced on the EPOS would be their first goto response. A lot of the issues if not all the issues I have experienced with VC are mainly database issues and Parentpay issues so they wouldn't ever need to support the EPOS unless they had to upgrade them. something again which can be done by any support technician

 

Although as a precaution I have saved a couple of the old tills in low use area just in case I can replace all my tills with refurbished all in one a lot cheaper than 1 x £1500 epos

No, they can't outright dictate what machines you can use their software on, I don't think. But I'd guess that they can as-good-as do it by simply refusing to license the software on its own, and only providing it with their ePOS terminals.
