X-13 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Title pretty much sums it up. Impero suffers the same problem as 99% of other desktop software... it's really hard to use on a touchscreen tablet. Does anyone know if there's a touch version coming out? Also, it seems to break windows 8 apps. I suspect this as they worked immediately after I uninstalled it. Is there a setting I've overlooked that's causing this? Or is it an unintended feature? Oaktech Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Interested to hear the conclusion of this. I've got a suite of w8.1 acer iconia w510 tablets on which the performance of Modern apps is really flaky. I've removed all restrictions in GPO and modern apps still don't work. I'll grab one tomorrow and see how it behaves with a fresh w8.1 build and then how it works with the predone w8.1 image with impero pre loaded.

Oaktech Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Firing off a modern app as anything other than a domain (and therefore impero) admin flashes up the coloured loading screen and then bails out with some sort of DLL error that Google has never heard of. Que?

Que? On the tablet, I get the error tone. But no message saying what it was. On desktop, I get the message. But no error tone. I haven't tried removing Impero from the desktop, only the tablet. Strangely, the store works on the desktop with Impero installed, but not on the tablet unless I remove Impero.

I've not got anything domain with 8.1 on a desktop, so I can't vouch for what it does on a desktop, I get the error tone and if I've got the keyboard attached and do a quick alt+tab I can get to the error message. I'll have a play and we can compare notes later!
X-13 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 Just tried again. Booted tablet with no Impero, tested the Store app and the Unity companion app. Both work fine. Installed the Impero client, neither work. Both make the error tone but I can't alt+tab to see it. On desktop, tested with Adera, Games, Project Spark, Store and AC:Unity with Impero installed. [i have way more apps installed for some reason...] Just seeing if I can open them. Store: Works Adera: Works Games: Loading screen then instant quit. Project Spark: Loading screen then instant quit. AC Unity: Works. Project Spark works without Impero, but Games doesn't. Strangely, when I reinstalled Impero, it complained about Adera running...
Oaktech Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I'm seeing the same... I've removed Impero and the modern apps are working fine. Looks like a question for @russdev
russdev Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 (edited) I believe support where discussing it with one of you today. If make sure on 4126 or above then should be ok? If not let me know will do a remote session to see what is going on. Russ Edited November 25, 2014 by russdev
Oaktech Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hi Russ, I'll get back on this tomorrow. It was me who was talking to your guys, the tablet in question and the server have been upped to 4126 and I'm still getting a problem. Basically, with the impero client installed, if I try and start any modern app, such as camera, skydrive or settings, the coloured loading screen appears I get an error tone and an error message that says: C++ runtime error path to app:, 4306, an application requested the C runtime to start in an unexpected way
russdev Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Has client upgrade as well as that is important bit. if client still on the lower version then will still have the issue.

Is your .NET framework fully updated. I'm sure I had a problem like this with another bit of software and it was .net related
X-13 Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 Just going to add my 2p's. Is your .NET framework fully updated. I'm sure I had a problem like this with another bit of software and it was .net related 4.5.2? I know ours is on the desktops. Not sure about my tablet, I'll have to check tomorrow.

Hi @russdev, I've checked the file version on the tablet and it's definitely 4126... I'm going to check the .net framework in the next hour and I'll get back to you
russdev Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Hi If let me know and if got problem will get one of my team and dev to a remote session. Russell
Oaktech Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 @russdev I'm going to call in, i've updated .net to 4.5.2 and tested things and as soon as impero is installed I get the boing of death and modern apps stop working!
russdev Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 if not called in yet i can get the support tech to call you? Russell
Oaktech Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 @russdev I've called in and one of your chaps has added the modern apps to the dll injection exclusion list on the server. This seems to have fixed the issue, but it would be better if the Impero client either automatically 'knew' not to interfere with modern apps or we could get to the bottom of what it's actually getting upset about, that I think is probably more your dept. Please give me a shout if you want to see it in action!

Yes will do as not seeing it here and other places so need to start to drill that down a bit more. @X-13 did you say you saw it on your desktop? Russell
X-13 Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 @X-13 did you say you saw it on your desktop? I'm seeing similar problems, but I'm not sure they're related. I've checked .net on the tablet and it's updated to 4.5.2. Impero is on version 4.1.17. I can't see any way of updating it.
