mrstrong Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Hi, We've just upgraded server memory and resmon is showing only 23% used physical memory. Before the upgrade it was reaching 98%. Yet I'm still getting quite a few hard faults a second which I thought you only got when it's paging? So why would it be paging when so much memory is free ? Are there any utils I can run to check the health of the server, esp the new memory to make sure its good ? E.g. could a DIMM be dodgy or maybe a connection as server motherboard was very dusty?
Arthur Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 So why would it be paging when so much memory is free? How large is the page file?
mrstrong Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 How large is the page file? Says 24566MB and "automatically manage paging file size for all drives" ticked After I installed new RAM the server wouldn't boot on first attempt: just several beeps and nothing on monitor. Tried again and it booted ok! Also couldn't login "locally" this morning: the keyboard and mouse plugged into the server are not responding. However I've managed to get in via mstsc and checked administrative events for errors: nothing unusual. Resmon still showing the odd hardfault and memory has crept up to 47% used of the 24GB installed (mainly sqlsrvr.exe)
3s-gtech Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 See if you can knock the pagefile down a bit - how much physical memory is it using?
