Barcode Scanner

Hi everyone,

 

I have been asked by a member of SLT to look into getting barcodes and barcode scanners for the school.

 

The idea behind it is that each pupil has a barcode stuck on their planner and if a teacher wants to award points to the student then all they have to do is scan the barcode and it links to Frog and their leap points.

 

Just wondering is anyone using something similar and can point me in the right direction regarding the hardware I would need to make this happen?

Possible to do it with the Frog app and a tablet/mobile ??

 

Otherwise have a look at Wasp barcode scanners. Ive got some, theyre very good IMO.

What will you do when they inevitably lose the planner?

Print them off a new barcode I assume! Cheers @mikkydoos I have had a look on that site and sent them an email detailing what I need. I see a lot of asset management software but nothing that would link to Frog or a points system that I can see

Also... for a points system, depending on what kind of school you are, you might want to have a look at...

They've got an Apple/Android app that would do it. Our lot love it.

 

Classdojo wouldn't work with a barcode though. IMO barcode scanners are a bit out of date. Teachers got tablets ??

Barcode scanners might be getting on but newer ones also support formats like qr codes a hardware scanner is quicker than a tablet/smartphone.

could you just use an app and a webcam (if you have them) and print out qr codes instead?

I was wondering about using QR codes and an app on smartphones or tablets, however not everyone has one of those so I'm not sure the cost of purchasing a small tablet for everyone would be worth it.
