DLINK DGS1210 fibre

Hello

 

I have 2 Dlink DGS3620-switches connected through fibre. The fibre modules used are dem-431XT. Everything works perfect. Now I want to replace one DGS3620 with a DGS1210 so I configured the DGS1210 the same way. The problem is that the DGS1210 doesn't "see" the fibre. The fibre-module fits perfecly. Any ideas?

Fibre modules are sometimes vendor specific, or more to the point the switch will only see certain types. You may need to buy modules specific for those switches; although personally I'd recommend taking the opportunity to replace the whole switch with something more suitable (because the modules can often be quite expensive). The specs appear to show the 431XT is 10GBit - there is no way in hell that the 1210 are capable of that. I'm certian they're not SFP+ so whilst they'll physically fit they wont work.

I've gotta ask! Why are you replacing a high end model (I use that term loosely with D-Link) with a low end model? Have you tried a firmware update? I doubt it'll work because as synaesthesia said, its probably not compatible.

some modules only work on certain types of fibre as well/can be fussy if they are working over single/multimode fibre links

Having a quick look at the data sheets a DEM-431XT is a 10 Gig SFP and the DGS1210 does not support 10 Gig fibre modules.

You need a DEM-311GT for DGS1210 it is 1000Mbps short range multimode fibre. As above 10G is not supported on that switch.
