Maths software / apps

Hi All,

 

I've been asked to look into sourcing a product that will help our lower end Year 7 & 8 learners improve their numeracy skills. So far i've looked at DoodleMaths, Maths Factor and Mathletics which all seem to have their strengths and weaknesses. Have any of you had experience with the above, or could you recommend other products for me to consider? Our maths department have 15 iPads per class (so approximately one between two) but it would be great to have something that students could access independently no matter what device they are using.

 

Any advice / ideas appreciated.

Nubble is being used to great effect in one of my schools.

The other uses RM Maths - old, but the children love it and they do seem to progress

We use Mathletics here and the children love it. The best part is the competitive element as they can compete against other members of their class or other schools in the country. Its all online so there's nothing to install on your server/workstations, and the maths department can administer the children's passwords online so you shouldn't need to get involved.

 

I've not tried the other two you mention so can't comment, but we're on our third year of Mathletics here and still going strong.

+1 for Mathletics. We don't use it here (to my knowledge. It is possible that the maths department have been spontaneous!) but my son (age 7 but high competency) uses it at his school and loves it. It's at the point now that when he gets home, he would rather go on Mathletics than play games.

Mathletics is what the Maths teachers here have switched to this year, they've given a lot of positive feedback on it.
