Hello,

We've given our Art staff new laptops this term and one of our teachers is now unable to see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray when her external hard drive is plugged in. She can still see her hard drive in Devices and can browse the contents of it, we just don't see the icon to safely remove it. If she plugs a memory stick into the new laptop, the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon does appear and it works fine, she can eject the memory stick no problem.

The member of staff used this hard drive with her last laptop (HP ProBook 6550b, 2GB RAM, Win7 32-bit) and she was able to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature.

The laptop is an HP ProBook 450, 4GB RAM, Intel Core i3 CPU @2.4GHz, running Windows 7 64-bit. The hard drive is a Toshiba V73600-C 1TB.

Any idea why this is happening?

Cheers,

Skib.

Just had another two members of staff with the same problem. All with the same laptop and Win 7 Pro 64.

Is anyone able to offer any suggestions?

I'm going to have a look at it this week so if I sort it I'll post back on here.

In the meantime, any suggestions on what might be causing this will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers :)
