That's poor - I signed up for a code ages ago which I have working, but it is based on my individual google apps account. I signed up the other day for one on a generic account (as google suggest) and I'm still waiting. Have identified an issue though that you need a channel name before you can use the service, and the channel name needs google+. Waiting for google+ permissions to propagate onto the generic account to see if that helps speed up the sign up process.

I've not had any further success with Youtube for schools signup sadly. Looking at the google forums it seems many people are having the same issue - I hope it isn't a sign that the YfS service may be cancelled by google.

Was going to post my own stresses with YfS but it seems it's well documented! Is it true then that any attempts to sign up post May 2014 have not been successful? I assumed the banner at the top saying "in a matter of weeks" was a recent addition and informed our staff that we should be able to sign up "in a matter of weeks", but it seems now that may need to be postponed.. to never?

I've been waiting since September w/ that message - Google's interpretation of 'weeks' and ours is not the same!!

At the moment my school has unfiltered access to YouTube. For the last couple of months we've not had one instance of it being abused though, as far as I have been made aware.

Could someone who is using google apps contact support?

I tried that - support for Youtube isn't included in support for Google Apps. This other thread might help:

http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/147974-youtube-edu-sign-up.html

In summary, if I understand correctly, Youtube for schools is being re-worked to work with Google's end-to-end encryption policy - the machanism Youtube For Schools uses to enforce a particular school's settings to be applied depends on URL modification, and that's not going to work with encryption. No-one seems to know a particular date for Youtube For Schools processing sign-up requests again, or if they are going to work in quite the same way. Your filtering providor (either the vendor of your on-site device, or your ISP) should hopefully have another mechanism available to let you enforce Safe Search on Youtube, although that doesn't help you if you want users to be able to white-list specific videos.

I posted a question on their support pages in October of last year asking for an update and was contacted by one of the YouTube for Schools Program Managers last week. She said that they're currently working on a solution and asked for some specific details about our school to see if she could speed things along for us.

If I get anywhere with them I'll post back!

Would you be able to share her contact details, or perhaps ask her to contact me if I PM you my contact details? We are looking to enable Youtube for Schools and not having much luck with the signup process either

I have youtube for schools, but with the new forced linking to g+ I can't figure out how to add new staff as authorized users. The user is never found. @robjduk you say it works well, when is the last time you have added staff?

Thanks,

Yes I am a GAFE school as well. I am talking about adding them to the youtube for schools page to have full access, and approve videos for students. Here is a screen shot.

must admit, I have never seen that screen and if anyone wants a video unblocking to the students, they come through the helpdesk. Not sure how other schools would see this but not even a handful of teaching staff in my place would be able to figure this out (not joking) so its best they come through me.

Ah but when it worked it was great. I added their username to this list, then every video they wanted their students to see they just added to a playlist in their own account. It looks like I'll have to have them all come through me again though.
