bodminman Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Hi there, I'm setting up a test Moodle server and all is going well apart from one niggly issue. When logging in for the first time (LDAP) i get presented with the Profile page. I can alter anything on the page excluding the email address and when I press the 'Update Profile' button, the profile changes save instantly. If I try this with an email address entered in the profile, it takes ages to update, or at least to get to the point of saying it's sent a confirmation email. The confirmation emails get sent ok but I really need to try and find out what the problem is. The server that Moodle is on is running Ubuntu 14.04 and is fully up to date and Moodle was updated to v2.8 today. The issue was present prior to the update. I'm a newbie to both Linux and Moodle so any help as always will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Dkeen94 Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 How are you running your emails? I am failing to set the emails up ATM! Same server specs as you!
bodminman Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 How are you running your emails? I am failing to set the emails up ATM! Same server specs as you! We use O365 for email and this is what I've got: Site Admin - Plugins - Message Outputs - Email SMTP hosts - (Empty) SMTP Security - None Username - ENTER EMAIL ADDRESS TO SEND FROM Password - FOR THE ABOVE EMAIL ADDRESS
andyrite Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 You need to have the SMTP Server set. 365 needs security setting too.
bodminman Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 I tried that but it didn't make any difference.
bodminman Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Yes. When i use smtp.office365.com as the SMTP host i get an error: could not send email!
andyrite Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 The account needs sendas rights to whoever is sending the email. I never got this to work. I did find a way around it by using the MX record as the SMTP server in Moodle. 1
bodminman Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 It does have send as rights. The same details are used for another service which sends email without issue.
bodminman Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 I have just changed: SMTP hosts - smtp.office365.com:587 SMTP Security - TLS as per my OP this is working but takes ages to complete the 'Profile Update'. Approx 40 seconds.
Dkeen94 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Are you running the site over SSL or just HTTP?
