GAPPS Archiving old staff accounts

How are you all archiving old staff accounts when they leave ? Do you just delete the account regardless ? I'm thinking of creating a sub OU called archive and dropping them all in there.

we have an OU called ex-staff and all ex staff go in there. We also create a calendar reminder to delete them, along with their home drive after 6 months (12 for SLT).

As google drive for education accounts now have unlimited space I transfer documents to an archive account before deleting users staff and students just in case - you could have an account for each year.

By the end of the year google apps for education should have google vault for free so you can archive email as well.

In google apps if you select to disable a user Google will move that user into a special disabled OU for you.

Doesn't that delete them after a set amount of time ?

 

Thanks all, the problem is that I'm rarely informed what to do with staff leaver accounts, today I'm having a cull

 

Doing this :-

 

Move gapps account to archive OU, reset password with an auto generated one, delete AD account, then move domain home folder onto external storage.

We suspend the account and move the user in to an "ex-staff" OU. Suspending means you can get back in if you need to.

This is what we do too. Can't remember the amount of times we've had staff leave only to return a year or two later.

 

We also do this for students. Again we've had a number of ex students join us again as staff or interns.
