Small distribution required

I am after a Linux distribution with a small install size so that each user can have a virtual disk file in their home driver. Any other set-up tips this will be used controlled assessment.

 

Update:

They need to be able to create directories, set up user logins, install applications and user groups.

I used Ubuntu for our local VM's.

If you really want to go small DSL might be worth a look. At 50MB it's pretty slim.

 

Or you can go one further with Tiny Core Linux instead, which'll be 10MB.

 

Or if you really, really want to push it and go for something a little different MenuetOS fits on an old floppy.

I did suggest NanoLinux, but none of these micro-distributions are multi-user.

 

You could set up a single server and allow SSH/Putty control, but unless you use some pretty funky sandboxing, you'll have to give the password for sudo, and all manner of destruction will follow.

If it's a case of each student having a VM in their home drive I don't think multiuser is necessarily important.

I assuming there is no reason not to put there /home partition on another virtual disk which is their windows home area. I can then use Ubuntu or some thing like that and install most of the file on the local machine.
