Yeah those books are pretty good... You will probably find it cheaper to use technet/google instead.

 

I've created some exercises for my students on the Windows 2012 courses for the college I teach at, so if you need some inspiration on creating a lab let me know.

 

I would use Hyper-V to create the VMs and use checkpoints etc to install/configure stuff using the GUI and Powershell

I used these books to pass my exams, but I bought the Kindle version and used the Kindle app on my iPad. For exams I used VCE Simulator and downloaded them off the web for free.
