dibekem Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Hi guys I have a laptop that looses the wireless connection. Every time I restart this laptop I have to manually press the function key to switch the wireless on. Its an Asus X5DC. Win 7 Home premium. Brand new installation. Tried 32 bit and 64 bit installs and I have also updated the wireless driver to the latest driver from the Atheros website. Any help would be great! Thanks
TechSupp Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Got an Advent one that does that, never found a solution other than I now put a micro USB wifi adaptor in.
dibekem Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 O dear. Do you think it was like that before I got hold of it? Someone gave it to me to reinstall the OS as they couldn't get into the laptop. How yours got into that state? Thanks
TechSupp Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Somehow remember researching it and found lots of others had same issue, think it was there by (bad) design. So you may be Ok and it was like that anyway....look on the bright side....before they couldnt even get into it, now they can, and can use it...result!
xenonive Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I had similar thing with MSI laptop with atheros wireless card and managed to solve it with flashing bios with same version it had on but with wireless card enable before flash and it seemed to set the bios default to be wireless card on . Else maybe try restoring bios default settings first to see if helps
mac_shinobi Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 You able to replace the wifi card with an intel one ?
dibekem Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Wow. There is hope! ok will try the bios thing. I cant change the wireless card. Doubt if they want to spend more on it. Thanks guys. Will keep u informed.
difinity Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Have you installed the wireless switch utility ? Located under utilities on the Asus driver page. 1
dibekem Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Thank you so much Difinity! I have just installed that utility and its working! Yay!
