tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Hi, i wonder if someone could help me, am waiting on Crapita but couud be a year before i get a reply! i have installed Discover on a few PCs and all working ok apart from one machine, when i try log on to Discover it give me "Unknown error occured during login" does anyone know why im only gettting this on one PC with same username and password i use for all the machine? have uninstalled it reinstalled - installed older versions and upgraded to newest but not getting anywhere quickly many thanks
jamesb Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 It sounds like it's something specific to the machine. How is it different to your others?
tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 thanks for the reply... i have a few of the same machines and all works fine on them
bossman Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 @tomazzotta: Have you tried copying the discover folder from one of the working machines to the one that is not working, either overwrite the current one or rename it and try that, then you will know that it is either a corrupt install of the discover or it is the workstation in which case if it is the latter then a rebuild of the workstation maybe in order.
tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 yeah tried copying the discover folder from my PC on to the PC thats isnt but also didnt work - it then wouldnt let me even get to the logon screen when i tried this thanks again
glen_j Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Try copying the file in the folder to the machine with the problem from one that works C:\ProgramData\Discover 1
tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 great shout.. it has now stopped the working machine from working - so will reinstall mmmm.....
jamesb Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) If copying a folder from a working machine stops it working, I think you have bigger problems going on with your systems. There's no way that I can think of that making a copy of a folder from one machine to another would affect the source machine. As 'unknown error' doesn't help much with troubleshooting have you had a look in your event logs on the clients and server to try and get a little more details on the issue? tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 think you must of mis-read something there james... i copied from the machine with the problem onto a working machine - which then stopped the working machine from working... yesterday i tried copying from the working machine onto the machine with the problem and still wouldnt work hope that makes sense thanks

Anything in event logs?
tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Glen_j mentioned it... nothing in Event logs as usual thanks
jamesb Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Glen_j mentioned it... I think you misread his comment. Emphasis below mine. Try copying the file in the folder to the machine with the problem from one that works C:\ProgramData\Discover nothing in Event logs as usual On both client and server? I'm generally clutching at straws here with general troubleshooting, not being overly familiar with Discover (it came along after my day). Maybe try what glen_j suggested, particularly as it does seem that file was responsible?
tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 i did try this... as mention :S after his comment - i thought it was a great shout, but it stopped the working machine working! so i had to reinstall it to get it working on the machine that originally was working. thanks anyways

That seems to be what you're saying. 1
tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 sorry i mis-read i take it all back i was copying from (working Machine) C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\Discover Client to (not working machine) C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\Discover Client thanks Glen, and thanks James wouldnt of noticed if you didnt say... my bad
jamesb Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 thanks Glen, and thanks James wouldnt of noticed if you didnt say... my bad No problem, hope it helped. I did suspect there was a miscommunication somewhere along the line.

tomazzotta Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 yeah thanks Glen, thats where i mis read the comment... automatically read it as program files and not programdata cheers
