Multi Site Ruckus

Hi,

 

I'm starting to look after a group of childrens centres and was wondering about the best way of managing the wireless for them. We installed Ruckus in one of the centres a couple of years ago and is working well and I was wondering if there was a way of installing the Ruckus AP's or even another controller at the other sites but be able to control them all centrally instead of having 5 individual instances.

Thats what we do, as they are not on the same subnet you will need to telnet to the AP's first and do the command SET DIRECTOR IP 192.168.x.x or what ever your ruckus controller IP is. We do however have private site to site ethernet links, so it also depends how the sites will be physically linked.

Thanks for the info.

They are all seperate sites but all connected by the local authority (BGFL). I'm pretty sure they are all on seperate VLANs though so not sure how well that would work. Any ideas if it would?

Unless the LEA will allow the traffic through their firewall it won't work. Works for us as we control the firewall too so i can let the AP's on other sites talk to the Zone Director on our main site. I think you will end up going down a separate zone director route by the looks of it.

If you have multiple sites that you want to manage you could consider the Ruckus virtual Smart Cell Gateway (vSCG). It's designed for these sort of deployments, it will allow you to centrally manage all your sites without needing access to the ZoneDirectors for WLAN uptime. You also have the ability to run it in a public or private cloud. This is a solution I personally haven't dealt with that much, for some additional reading it's worth visiting the Ruckus vSCG product page. Alternatively, I can ask someone here that will know about it to drop you an email

Ruckus now offer Smart Cell Gateway, or the Virtual Smart Cell Gate Way (SCG would be overkill lol) so you may want to look for companies who offer this service.

Im sure they could talk you through it.

If you can link the sites via the LEA the units and traffic is allowed through the APs can also be in different subnets, but using some DHCP settings you can inform the APs where to talk to the ZD.
