ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 Hahahahahaha!! Fuel scooping the bounty. Oh, I love it! How can I not give this a go? I can hear the 8-bit strains of the Blue Danube Waltz calling me home. Simple answer... You can't miss it For a bit of good old 8-bit nostalgia, check this out..
Sunnyknight Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Another one added. I'm buying too many games, and not playing them enough....
flyinghaggis Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) Just ordered the beta aswell so downloading it at the moment. Probably getting caught up in the hype but I've been watching a few of the beta videos on Youtube and it looks epic. I don't think I've played a space combat sim since X-Wing vs TIE Fighter! I'm surprised it's taken so long for someone to resurrect the genre as elite has been crying out for an online variant. I'll give it a shot on the xbox controller but I can see myself investing in a Joystick for this and Star Citizen at some point Edited October 21, 2014 by flyinghaggis
Dos_Box Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Elite Dangerous - wow! Eagerly awaiting my replacement graphics card (hurry up mr postman) - the old one plays it ok, but frame rate slooows down moving around planets. What are people getting to play this on out of interest?
flyinghaggis Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 What are people getting to play this on out of interest? Currently running on an i7-920/Geforce 770 with everything set to high at 1080p. Seems to be running smoothly from the tutorial missions I've tried so far.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 What are people getting to play this on out of interest? I know John's using a Z600. Spec is this I think: 2 x Xeon X5570 2.93GHz Quad Core 24GB RAM 10600R 120GB SSD nVidia GTX680 Runs like a dream.
sted Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 begining to suspect it wont run well on my nuc or laptop
Dos_Box Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 begining to suspect it wont run well on my nuc or laptop I think it may be better if we focussed on what the minimum specs you can get away with a playable experiance is rather than ones that we know will run the universe
sted Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I think it may be better if we focussed on what the minimum specs you can get away with a playable experiance is rather than ones that we know will run the universe probably im not going to build a gaming pc again ive done that in the past and 90% of the time i get more enjoyment out of console games
StevieM Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) I think it may be better if we focussed on what the minimum specs you can get away with a playable experiance is rather than ones that we know will run the universe I hear you, brother. I think @ict-direct John's was built by the Magratheans! My laptop has an i7-4710MQ 2.5GHz CPU, 8GB DDR3, Nvidea GeForce GTX 765M with 2GB GDDR5. Think that should be good enough to run it according to the Beta system requirements. Now all I need is a decent joystick, as I don't think my old Quickshot 2 would be up to the task! Was looking at that Thrustmaster one @ZeroHour mentioned earlier in the thread. I don't want to spend loads in case I just give it up as a bad idea, but I think I can cope with £35 or so. Also, to Beta or not to Beta? That is the question. Edited October 22, 2014 by StevieM

Yeh, the Kempston in the attic isn't going to cope well either (look them up kids!). I've been watching a few reviews of the Thrustmaster and it looks perfect, especially for that price. ZeroHour Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Elite runs well, it really isnt hugely taxing but Beta 2.06 has a few issues with stations not working but the upcoming Beta 3 looks great.
ict-direct Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 The game is only 32 bit, I read that the games only uses 2GB RAM - most of the RAM in my machine is redundant for it, I'm hoping for a 64 bit version, but I think I'm clutching at straws. TO Beta or Not to Beta - definitely Beta, its stunning

Much as I'd love the beta, I'm going to have to live vicariously through you guys until the game is released. I've preordered the Mercenary edition and will be ready to launch come release day! This way I get to lose a little of my life to Civ:Beyond Earth first

StevieM Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 D'jer know what? I'm gonna do this thang. I'm gonna buy me a Thrustmaster, download the Beta and blast me some Thargoid scum! (And if I really am useless at it, won't it be a great Christmas present for my 16-year old nephew?) :dance:I can't believe I'm getting so excited about a computer game!

StevieM Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 See you in space! Aye-aye, captain. I will make it so.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 I've just found my role in this game! "Space is disease & danger wrapped in darkness" Exploring in Elite Dangerous - Frontier Forums Eeep! Going to be spending a lot of time in the cockpit seeking out new worlds, new riches and boldly exploring where a half dozen scifi shows have gone before.
Dos_Box Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I look forwards to hearing 'Distress call from %daves_callsign%' on a regular basis then

I'm not good enough at combat yet to do all the bad guy stuff haha
StevieM Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 And so the deed is done. Thrustmaster ordered and Beta access purchased. I feel like I've taken a huge step forward into the realm of Geekdom.

And besides, what're friends for if not dragging their mates disabled spaceship out of the path of an incoming Gamma Ray burst? Aha! Safe money! I'm not good enough at combat yet to do all the bad guy stuff haha Not so sure about safe money. Those blind jumps you've got to make sound pretty hazardous to me! And so the deed is done. Thrustmaster ordered and Beta access purchased. I feel like I've taken a huge step forward into the realm of Geekdom. Welcome aboard!
StevieM Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Just received notification that my Thrustmaster has been dispatched and should arrive tomorrow. Wish I'd arranged for it to be sent to school now, but I didn't think I'd get until next week when it's half-term. Oh, well.
ict-direct Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Thats great StevieM, you sound as excited as I was before I got mine.
