Hey all,

 

Can anyone suggest a decent VLE which can authenticate with active directory and is easy for staff to use?

What is your email system running on?

Will it be hosted onsite or elsewhere?

 

I know ... lots of questions and not answers ... but all will become clear.

Is anything easy for staff to use?

 

Moodle will happily live with AD (LDAP) authentication plus it is opensource and easy for you to look after.

 

Not sure what Tony is scheming there with all his Qs

also contact your lea and talk to them about there plans as soon will national vle scheme headed up by leas so might as well talk to them and see what they are planning

Yup. Moodle here too. Running on Linux but authentication is done against an AD server.

Only reason i wanted active directory authentifcation was to make life easier on students and staff. We all know what staff are like for forgetting passwords.

 

VLE we are after;

Home work setting and submiting from students

Online Tests

Discusion system

 

We will be hosting it on a dedicated server external of our lea. We will be looking to run it of a seperate domain but not 100%

@Ross2k5: You might struggle with your AD authentication if you are hosting the site on a server outside of your network (no matter which solution you choose).

Just relised after reading what i said about the active directory authentification. If we had it in house at our LEA we may not struggle.

Yes, thats how we do it. The box is running Linux + Apache + Samba + LDAP and sitting on our curiculum network. Access to the machine from the internet is provided by a squid based reverse proxy server run by the LEA.
