[sims] SIMs Crashes for the person doing Cover

Hi All,

 

I have been looking at the problem reported to me when I first joined the school nearly 2 years ago. This is where SIMs crashes for the person doing cover with the following error.

 

 

 

I have raised this with Capita a few times and gone through the usual suspects - I am of the opinion that having too many Cover Diary rows (in this case 100 set) is the cause but the person doing cover doesn't want to reduce the rows.

 

Has anyone else experience this and have managed to crack it?

 

The PC used is of high spec - we use full SQL etc. AV (Sophos) has been eliminated.

 

Any advice gratefully received.

If you've exhausted Capita then a fix must not exist!

Highlighted a suggestion below though just in case PIBCAK

You could try it at least, to test the theory.

Hi Vikpaw,

 

Thanks for suggestion - I should have mentioned we have reduced the Diary rows and this does appear to reduce the number of crashes but not eliminate it entirely........maybe its a bug that needs correcting or a memory leak - Capita themselves have admitted in writing to me that they have memory issues with Sims.net which they hope to resolve in future releases.

the .net memory leak that has been here since 2004, it may be ......... fixed. Oh I can only wish.

We had the same issue, it was never resolved. Even swapped out the pc in question and it still happened. The funny thing is with each update the problem would jump to a different user within Sims. logging on as a different Sims user on the same pc and it didn't crash the problem seemed to be caused by opening lots of staff / pupil records one after another (just like when you're arranging cover) once it had crashed it was ok for a while then it would do it again.

Frame it! It'll be worth $$$ when SIMS 8 rolls out fully.

We have the exact same issue. Reducing the number of rows shown reduced the frequency of crashes, but did not eliminate them entirely. Capita advised us to add the following line to the connect.ini:

 

MaxNumberOfTables=99

 

This also seemed to help a little, but we still have issues. The PC is an i5 with 4gb ram, so should be plenty enough for cover!

@Amdian - thanks for adding comment - we too have supplied an i5 with 4G - the addition to the connect.ini is a new one to me - do you know happen to know what is does by any chance?

 

I wonder if any one else on this forum have had experience of adding this entry in their connect.ini?
