Argh! Come into work: FRDC has 3 dead drives on its RAID.

Anyone had more than 3 drives die simultaneously? We've had 2 before...

3 HDDs at the same time! OMG, lucky it was a DC which is easier to recover from (assuming there are multiple DCs on the network).

 

Or as it's the FR does that mean the whole forest is down?

Whole forest down. P2V disaster recovery image corrupt. AD backup - server failed during backup, so corrupt backup. Offline copy of AD backup process wasn't working, so no older backups of AD either.

 

Currently hoping that dead raid array isn't dead...

 

Edit: we have a server at the other end of a VPN tunnel that is a GC server, that I thought could be used to recover AD in case of failure, but doesn't appear possible :-(

Good on you for finding time to post, I would probably be pulling my hair out.

 

I once had 2 drives go and then the next day while raid was rebuilding a third went. Turned out to be faulty controller card that was going mental.

Have the drives actually failed or has the controller corrupted the configuration and thus dropped the drives ?

 

I've seen SAS (LSI based) controllers crash, mash the configuration on the controller and then happily either re-import a foreign config or worst case having to manually bring the arrays back online by reimporting drives / marking as good etc.

 

For multiple drives to fail at the same time, odds are very low, either way got my fingers crossed for you - what controller is it ?
