tronix-web Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Hi Just a quick question. Can Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SIMS2008\MSSQL\Backup folder "data" be deleted. I believe this folder keeps a backup copy of sims/fms data everything SOLUS does an upgrade Its taking a lot of my server space Any advice will be much appreciated Regards
Mcshammer_dj Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 yes you most certainly can but take care as to how much you delete
Mcshammer_dj Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I would take a look at the excellent utility written by @matt40k Tidybackups allows you to configure a sql backup and manage them to be deleted after a specified amount of time. 2
matt40k Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Linky: TidyBackups - Download: TidyBackups Also has the ability to compress (zip), makes them about a 1/5 of the uncompressed size.
vikpaw Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I wouldn't delete the folder, compress the files inside and just delete ones you don't want, either manually or with a rule, using Matt's utility. You can move the files out totally but still keep them if you want. I'm always over cautious and keep as much as i can.
Sylv3r Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I prune mine every now and again and delete the oldest ones. I've got a few days recently with multiple backups as we've been installing a few patches lately for our CENSUS.
