Files gone!

So one staff member at school has been having issues with offline files. Yesterday I disabled it and she has been using her laptop fine. I just went down and 3 files have disappeared from her desktop. I have redirected desktops. When I check on the server, there are no files there. No files on the last couple of nights backups.

 

Where do offline files go? There is no 'desktop' folder in C:\users\%username%

 

Bit confused!

 

Do you think I will need to scan the laptop with recovery software?

What about if she logs in without connecting to the network, are the files still missing?

So, to clarify - are these files that have disappeared SINCE you disabled offline files?

yeah, I disabled offline files yesterday. They disappeared this morning.

Could it be they were cached on the desktop but no actually sync'd and now offline files has been disabled it's just deleted/removed them.

 

You could look to see if there are any files left in c:\windows\csc . this is the default location for offline file storage.

If the c:\windows\csc folder is empty as a result of disabling offline files then they're gone and you will spend far too much time trying to recover them with no guarantee of success, if the csc folder still has files in it you may have luck with a copy csccmd but you need I think it's 1.1 or 1.2 to extract the contents of the csc cache.

I've re-enabled offline files and they have come back. Concerning that they haven't sync'ed really. Making sure that they are copying now!!

 

I HATE offline files.
