FN-GM Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Hang on, @Tesla can you not give @FN-GM a small amount of money for these machines he is getting rid of. @FN-GM, whats happening to these machines once you have replaced them? Im just having a think thats all. Not sure, im leaving the place so will not be there when the time comes. There is talk about them going to a primary. They still have another years usage yet so it won't be any time soon.
Tesla Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 yeah a year is a bit too forward thinking! but ta anyway.
Tesla Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 given in and brought a cheap DC processor and some RAM, we have 4 old disused RM Ones, i'll hot swap motherboard with decent processor etc into one of the other should the screens/hard drives become fubared (assuming it runs well enough in the first instance. only spent £35 so not too much of a loss if it doesn't pay off.
clockend25 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Our oldest machines are some Dell Optiplex units which were originally packing an ancient Pentium D and a gig of RAM. Last summer we stuck SSDs and an extra couple of gig in them and they'll probably be good for another year yet.
