edie209 Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Here is my senario I have an internal Exchange 2007 server (on Server 2003), I have Office 365 deployed with all mailboxes migrated, I have DirSync and ADFS. MX records point to Exchange online At present everything works fine but I don't see the point of having the internal server now, but reading various articles has confused the issue and I am not sure what to do for the best. So has anyone been at this point or are you at this point and what are you planning as your next move? do you have any recommended reading. Thanks
zag Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Get rid of the internal server and get on with things. I have no idea why anyone would want to keep that, office 365 is great and does everything we need. We got rid of our 2010 server a long time ago in the initial move. No problems at all.
mikkydoos Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Unplug it and use it for something else. As long as you have your DNS set up and your MX record points to your O365 tennant you're OK. Set up any Outlook clients with the IMAP settings for your accounts and you're good to go. I was at another school yesterday helping them with moving from Exchange to O365. They were thinking about a rich co-existence between Exchange and O365. The only reason you would want a hybrid setup would be if your 'net was down and you wanted a local copy of your mail.
win Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 It will also make it easier to get rid of server 2003 which is going eol next year
edie209 Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) Everyone is saying what I was hoping to hear. So the question is how have you decommissioned the exchange server? and got Office 365 to manage everything. If you just switch it off objects will still look to the 2007 server i.e distribution groups. error The action 'Update-DistributionGroupMember', 'Identity,Members', can't be performed on the object 'Email Group' because the object is being synchronized from your on-premises organization. This action should be performed on the object in your on-premises organization. Edited October 3, 2014 by edie209
