nicholab Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Today Lenovo full took over Ibm x86 server buiness. What do people think?
Alkaline Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I have never seen an IBM server in use, apart from those from the early 00's which we have replaced. What does IBM do now then?
rich_tech Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Thought they were mostly software development and consulting these days, I haven't seen an IBM server in about 12 years, place I used to work had 2 massive Netfinity servers running SCO Unix at the time, reliable stuff at the time, but expensive I think.
Arthur Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I've never heard anything good said about IBMs (x86) servers or support. e.g. www.aidanfinn.com/?p=9655 & ?p=9135. Hopefully Lenovo can turn things around?
john Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Looks in server room.... I see IBM servers (not our choice or purchase I will add they belong to another team) but yep they exist and they look like they always did big and boxy.
TronXP Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I have been using IBM servers for almost 10 years now, they have been bullet proof (still have two 8 year old servers running for background tasks). Only had 3 disks ever fail over on our servers and IBM SANS in 10 years, unlike our oracle san. IBM support was great on the occasions we needed them. I am disappointed that IBM will now be gone, but at the same time we use Lenovo desktops and laptops and the business side support we have had off them has also been great, so it may not be a problem. I guess time will tell.
