Garden vacuum

Anyone got an electric garden vacuum that they'd recommend? Not looking to spend a fortune, but don't want something rubbish either that doesn't suck/blow enough.

I got one from local classified for about £50. Its a Black & Decker one that sucks and blows plenty but it has the most stupid bottle neck where the supposed chopped waste goes into the back and it always blocks. Every couple of minuted the back needs untying and the blockage clearing. Dont get that one.

They are ok, if the waste if dry (as in bone dry). Moist or wet waste is a blockage causer.

I bought a cheap one electric one from Homebase and it was hopeless - returned it within the week.

 

Ended up buying a MacAllister petrol one from B&Q - so much easier than faffing with cable and much more powerful. Only criticism with it is that it is obviously designed more for blowing than sucking as it's a bit awkward to hold in suck mode. That said, the Stihl one the premises guys at work have is much the same in that respect. I'd cautiously recommend, although I had a bit of a 'mare getting it started the first time. I got it going eventually and it's fine now though, and £70 for a petrol blower is great value.

I wouldn't with the reviews it has. Far too many complaining about lack of power and suction.

We got this one (Mac Allister Electric Garden Vac 3000 W | Departments | DIY at B&Q) and it's all right. I got a bit enthusiastic with what I sucked up the first time and got a blockage but only because some thin bendy shoots had got wrapped around the impeller. Easy to unblock, with a flap to give access secured with a an allen bolt, with a nice little holder for the key.

 

Just used it yesterday to suck up the leaves on our patio and shreds them nice and fine and had no issue. Sucks and blows and even has a little vacuum like head you can add on.

Few little niggles, like the bag has an annoying clip to hold it on at the lower end, but that is the worst of it.

Don't let your other half decide to have a go when you haven't put that bag back on though. She gets very annoyed when the resulting leaf mist shoots out of the gaping hole the bag should be attached and into the kitchen through the open door.

 

Not used any others so nothing to compare to but it does the job.
