halogen light problem

Hi

I have this IKEA lamp but Every time I turn it on it pulses and can take up to a minute to actually turn on it sometimes doesn't turn on at all. It is a G4 20w 12v bulb.

 

I've attached a gif hope it works.

Anyone know why this does this?

Am going to try an led one next week.

Ikea make some good useful items, but bulbs are not one of them. I got some energy savers from them and it takes ages to warm up - try a Philips bulb and see how it goes.

the only "good" bulb Ikea used to do was a 150w screw in bulb one for their Not floor lamps, one of those bad boys in your lamp and it illuminated half your house, can't imagine why they don't offer them anymore, probably because they were leaving shadows on the walls in peoples houses.

 

I dont mind energy savers but I tend to want ones that have a rating of 100w + equivalency, anything lower makes for a struggle on the eyes overall.

I can't really make out the fitting in the gif. Is that the correct wattage for the fitting? If too low the electronics could be struggling. Or it could be simply broken.

Yep according to IKEA website its right bulb and voltage etc...tried another bulb and still the same. So took it apart and there's not much to go wrong really all wires are where they should be. Maybe its the power adapter. Its a weird IKEA one though. Connector looks like a audio rca lead

Thanks to all who replied. Bought an LED bulb and that works a treat, uses hardly any energy and good for 30,000 hours.
