The music faculty at one of the schools i work at have a large number of mp3s that they use for various things... they want to try and sort the music into more usable format (rename the files and sort into directories by artists and albums and so-on). As they sometimes use the music on mp3 players, they also want the id3 tags updated too.

Does anyone have any software they would recommend that can download cddb details of the albums, update the id3 tags and allow the files to be renamed into whatever format they decide upon? it would also have to be easy to use, otherwise the job will come back on me to sort it for them :roll:

This may be a little 'dirty' but I find the Windows Media Player music organisation feature to work OK.

There is a setting along the lines of 'let Media Player organise my library'. You can then add the location of all the music into the library. Media Player will then trawl through it and sort out the tags and directory structure.

iTunes will do the same as well.

@Ric_

Yes t does ... it pulls it down from Amazon in whatever country you are in ... you just have to click on the menu item that says 'get album artwork'.

Admittedly it is a bit fuzzy on what it gets occasionally and sometimes puts in what it thinks is the nearest match rather than leaving something blank ... but it is there.

OutLawTorn I used a bit of software on my mp3car project about 3 years ago i can't remember the name at the moment but I have the software in my cd wallet but I have left it at work this weekend.

But the place that I originally found out about it was at http://www.mp3car.com/ I'll have a look and see if I can find it for you

Edit I remembered the name Helium and you can find it here http://www.supershareware.com/info/helium-music-manager.html

You should have a look at MP3Tag for editing the ID3 tags. It's really easy to use and you can sort the MP3s etc. into folders based upon the name of the artist and/or album with only a few clicks.

I would go with something like MP3Tag rather than relying on WMP

I started editing details within WMP and while the changes showed within it, when I looked at the MP3 tags, nothing had actually been changed. So maybe its just me, but it doesnt look like it actually edits the tags properly

You need to register for iTunes to get artwork now... WMP will do it fine and won't 'reorganise' your music...

Another vote for ID3Tag-ItT... lovely bit of software :)
