10gbit Base-T and CAT5e

Simple question, will cat5e support 10gbit over short distances (less than 10 meters) there is no official support for anything less than CAT6 (55 meters) but I'm thinking interference will be minimal over a short run?

Yes it will, but i think cat6 is recommended for 10Gb networking and won't cost much more (excluding fibre)

Our core switch is in the next room and is all cat5e cabling so I was hoping to make use of this without having to replace or supplement with CAT6A.

Drill a hole through the wall and use cat6, you may get a flakey, reported 10g link with cat5 over like 4-5m but it will be absolute junk thanks to a bunch of it being used up by errors and retransmissions. Cat5 isn't even really up for gig oven much distance. Sure it will report as gig but your actual data rate will be lower thanks to errors on the cable you'd never pick up with out full packet logging on.

I was looking at cat6a as well but heard that the cable is chunky and doesn't like corners. I'm hoping to get a 10gb switch but it will have to wait for next years budget

Umm sounds like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and run cat6 or cat6a, yes bend tolerance is reduced on cat6 and 6a, god knows what is like for cat7.

Isn't Cat7 the 'pipe' the internet runs on... I think you need a plumber to bend them

cat6 is ok (flexibility wise), but for standards higher than that you will need to find Synacks plumber.
