sted Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Looking for recommendation for a 4 bay nas box that supports iscsi (the netgear readynas 104s say they do but experience tells me they do for about a day before the box locks up and requires he power cable removing). Dosent need to be the fastest thing ever its to back servers up to overnight so its not going to be hammered all day from lots of locations probably just a lot of the night from 2

It can transcode them into different formats on-the-fly. sted Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) is the QNAP TS-421 much worse as its enough cheaper to be a more likely buy and as ar as I can see the main difference seems to be lack of lcd display (not overly fussed), less ram (again prefer more but I suspect I could nick that from a laptop),a few less raid options (does 5 so im happy) and its a bit slower on writes which left running long jobs over the weekend I can live with Edited September 19, 2014 by sted

pcstru Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 We use a number of Thecus 4 bay rack mount boxes (similar to the N4510U (i.e. previous versions of that model) ). They have good performance and have been reliable in 24/7 operation for the last 3-4 years.
